The Forster family - Simon and his parents Eileen and Bill
- have recently taken over the reins at
the Aspinall Arms, which enjoys a picturesque
village setting on the B6246 close to the River Ribble.
The country inn dates back to the 17th century and was built at a crossing point on the river. It was
the home of the ferryman, and the old boathouse was incorporated into the structure of the
present building.
The inn has a fine reputation for the quality of its
cooking, and Simon, an experienced and very talented chef, has
further enhanced that reputation. The food choice runs
from sandwiches, jacket potatoes and bar snacks to classic
main courses such as rabbit, leek and mustard pie, haddock in real
ale batter, steaks and lamb Henry (with a mint and red wine
sauce). There is also a specials board and many of the dishes
are available in smaller portions. The menu has a separate
section of `young diners meals'. Food is served lunchtime and
evening Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. The Aspinall Arms stocks an
interesting, regularly changing choice of real ales, including a selection from
the Copper Dragon Brewery and others from local breweries
like Bowland and Phoenix. For guests staying overnight or longer
the inn has three excellent en suite rooms for B&B; more rooms
are planned for 2006/7. A bonus for visitors to the inn is a
lovely enclosed garden with views of the river and a wooden play
area where the children can play while you relax.
