Abbots Oak, a fine Grade II listed building,
has been the White family home for 60 years. Carolyn and her parents started
offering Bed and Breakfast 12 years ago, although more recently her parents have
taken a back seat and Carolyn now runs it with her husband Phil. Located on the
B587 on the edge of Charnwood
Forest it is a haven of
courtesy, charm and genuine hospitality, and of peace, comfort and good food.
The whole place is warm and convivial, a real home from home that fulfils a
variety of roles: lots of business guests from Monday to Thursday, functions
and special occasions at the weekend, and always a great welcome for private
guests.
Public areas feature a wealth of fine oak panelling,
including a splendid three-storey staircase that reputedly came from a town
house owned by Nell Gwyn. The three en suite guest bedrooms are immaculately
decorated and furnished in keeping with the age of the house, and each has its
own individual character. Dinner is by arrangement, and in the candlelit dining
room classical cuisine is served under the gaze of Elizabeth I and Sir Walter
Raleigh. Guests have the use of a sauna, and the 19 acres of gardens and
woodland provide quiet strolls or a game of croquet or tennis.
