The Bath Arms, a 17th century Grade II listed building, is an absolutely outstanding pub with a equally outstanding chef-patron in Dean Carr. Immaculate inside and out, this is a pub worth more than just the traditional detour, and indeed many of the regular patrons travel many miles to enjoy the hospitality and fine food provided by Dean and his staff.

One look at the menu tells diners that is a place where food is taken very seriously. Familiar ingredients, all of the best quality, are prepared in often unexpected combinations to produce dishes that are probably not to be found on any other menus, whether pubs or restaurants. Roast scallops are served with cauliflower cheese; the signature fish cake combines Cornish crab and broad beans; haddock is served with squash tortellini and sage butter; pork loin steak is complemented with a fennel and tarragon salad; grilled ribeye steak is accompanied by blue cheese fritters and rocket pesto. Plainer dishes are also available, and Sunday brings both brunch and traditional roasts. The superb food is matched by an equally fine selection of drinks, headed by three or four CAMRA approved real ales including Crockerton Classic and Naughty ferret, both brewed within half a mile of the pub.

The Bath Arms is open every session and all day in the summer months. Booking is recommended Thursday to Sunday to be sure of a table. A large field behind the pub is a venue for regular events such as jazz lunches and beer festivals. Off the A350 Shaftesbury road just outside Warminster, Crockerton is close to many places of interest, including the National Trust's Cley Hill, a renowned sighting place for UFOs; the Arn Hill Nature Reserve, Shearwater Lakes and the magnificent house and Safari Park at Longleat. And for a spot of exercise there are plenty of forest walks and cycle trails. For a combination of comfort, peace and accessibility, the Bath Arms has few equals in the region, and the two large guest bedrooms have en suite facilities, superior décor and furnishings, plasma screen TVs and other up-to-the-minute amenities.
