The Anchor is a charming traditional inn with hotel facilities and an excellent restaurant. Dating in part from the 17th century, it stands 5 miles south of Pershore 150 yards from the B4080 Tewkesbury road, the main road through the quiet village of Eckington. The interior of the inn is comfortable and traditional , with original timber beams, feature stone pillars, a large open fireplace, barrel stools, brass ornaments, pictures of days gone by and collections of beer mats and badges.

A minimum of four real ales usually includes Bass, Marstons Pedigree and Piddle, and home-cooked food is served every lunchtime and evening). The cooking is traditional British with some imaginative touches and the lounge bar and à la carte menus cater for all palates and pockets with anything from bar snacks to three-course meals. A well-stocked wine cellar provides a fine complement to the food. Thursday is steak night, there's live music every other Friday and a quiz is held one Tuesday a month.

As well as satisfying hunger and thirst, the Anchor also provides very comfortable guest accommodation in tastefully decorated rooms with en suite shower, television and hot drinks tray.

It's an ideal place for exploring a region that offers a wealth of scenic and historic interest. Eckington itself was founded in AD172 as a Roman settlement on land belonging to the British Duboni tribe. It's a village of pretty black-and-white cottages, with a Norman church and a 15th century bridge over the River Avon. Footpaths lead to Bredon Hill, where on the crest of its northern slope are the remains of a pre-Roman settlement known as Kennereton Camp; on the summit of the hill is an 18th century brick tower folly. Tewkesbury, Evesham, Pershore are all nearby, and Worcester, Gloucester and Cheltenham are within an easy drive.
