Adjoining the ancient church where three roads meet, the
Blacksmiths Arms is a warm, convivial wayside inn. Lastingham, signposted off the
A170 west of Pickering, lies at the foot of the
North Yorkshire Moors, and Peter and Hilary
Trafford's neat stone inn naturally attracts walkers,
anglers, sportsmen and holidaymakers discovering the natural
and historic delights of the North East Dales.
In the cosy, old-fashioned bar, with its beams, log
fire, local photographs and assorted mugs, tankards
and harnesses, thirsts can be quenched with an interesting
of real ales featuring smaller breweries. Home-cooked
food served in the bar or restaurant also offers
an interesting choice that runs from familiar
favourites like fish pie or steaks to evening specials that might
include Mediterranean-style grilled sardines,
herb-crumb-crusted salmon with a fresh tomato coulis and a very tasty lamb
& apricot goulash. The en suite guest
accommodation, including a splendid four-poster room, is available all
year round.
