The Blue Bell Hotel at Heversham offers old-world charm and up-to-date comfort
and convenience for both leisure and business
visitors. Frederick and Priscilla Adams, in the trade for
30 years, came here in 2006 and have lost no time
in putting the hotel back on the map. They are the most attentive and friendly hosts, and their decision to do away with television and intrusive
music enhances the civilised surroundings. Originally a vicarage, with the
oldest parts dating back to 1460, the hotel is now a Samuel Smith property, and
that brewery's own real and other draught ales head the long list of drinks
served inside, out on the terrace or in the rear garden.
The bar is open lunchtime and evening, all day at the weekend and
all day every day in the summer. Food is served every session seven days a
week, in the 60-cover main restaurant - also available for private parties
and functions - and in the old beamed lounge bar, a cosy spot for a drink
or something from the bar menu. The chefs set great store by fresh
seasonal produce, and the regular menu is supplemented by daily specials.
Typical choices run from sandwiches and hot baguettes to potted shrimps, rainbow
trout, classic haddock & chips, moules
marinière, the curry and quiche of the day, beef
stew, vegetarian lasagne, and roast chicken, beef and lamb. Booking is advisable at
the weekend, and essential for the popular Sunday roasts.
Heversham lies in a rural location on the A6 between Milnthorpe and Levens.
Access to the main road network makes the Blue
Bell an ideal base for exploring the beauty spots and places of interest in the region.
Guest accommodation comprises 20 centrally heated upstairs rooms including two singles and
two family rooms. They each have their own individual style, but all have en suite
facilities, direct-dial phone, auto-call alarm,
hairdryer, trouser press and hot beverage tray. The
hotel can cater for meetings and conferences for
up to 70.
