The Grey Walls Hotel, in a prime location in
the heart of Windermere, offers excellent
all-round facilities and an ideal base for touring the
area. Behind the unique Cumbrian-stone exterior,
the hotel has the friendly atmosphere of a large country house, and although they arrived only
in January 2007, David and Laura Parry have already stamped their personalities on the
place, attracting and welcoming both local residents
and tourists.
The hotel incorporates a super traditional inn,
The Greys, where seven Real Ales are headed by
Cains from Liverpool. Busy, talented chefs prepare
a varied selection of dishes to enjoy either in the
bar or in the 24-cover restaurant (best to book in the latter, which is
also available for private parties). The printed menu and the
daily specials board offer plenty of choice, with steak & ale pie
made with Cains Formidable Ale a firm favourite; Thursday is steak night, when various discounts are offered. Food is served from 12 to 2 and 6
to 9 Monday to Thursday and all day at the weekend. The pub has a games room, a children's
room and a large-screen TV for major sports events, and when the sun shines the secluded beer
garden comes into its own.
The upstairs guest bedrooms all have en suite facilities, television, hairdryer and tea/coffee
tray; family rooms are available, and children of all ages are welcome. The tariff includes a
traditional English breakfast, and last-minute mini-breaks of 2 or 3 nights are offered.
