Owner Les Gott and chef Clare Fell are building a great reputation for good food and hospitality
at the Brown Cow, a delightful inn located on
the A595 3 miles south of Ravenglass. Les ran a pub in Coniston for 5 years, so he knows what
his customers want, and his reward is a growing band of contented regulars. The bar is open all
day for a wide selection of drinks, headed by
Theakstons Best and Cumberland Ale.
The dining room opens at 10.30 Monday to Saturday for a full English or Continental breakfast
and light bites, with the bar menu taking over at
11.30 (noon on Sunday); then come afternoon tea, high
tea and the main evening menu served until 8.30.
Dishes on this menu include all-time classics like cod
& chips, steaks, Cumberland sausage and a very popular
steak, onion and ale pie, and new classics like chicken,
lamb, prawn and vegetables curries. Smaller portions can
be served on request, and a takeaway service is
available. Children are welcome, and the inn accepts all the
major credit cards. Les plans to add another string to his
bow with Bed & Breakfast accommodation.
