Idyllically located in five acres of beautiful countryside just off the A5093,
Bankfield House Country Hotel & Restaurant
is a real hidden gem. The building dates from 1710 and in
almost 300 years has had only five owners. Since
April 2006 it has been owned and personally run by Paul and Alyson Rhind; they have really put it
back on the map with their hard work, personal service
and attention to detail and they are attracting a
clientele from outside the vicinity as news of the excellent
ale, food and hospitality spreads.
The inn is open all year round from 10 o'clock
for morning coffee, followed by the bar menu from
11.30, sandwiches, snacks and pastries until 6 and the
main evening menu served until last orders at 8.30. The
bar menu offers a wide choice of familiar favourites
such as Cumberland sausage, lasagne, curries,
home-made tarts and quiches, pizzas, steaks, beef & ale pie
and salad platters. The evening menu extends the chefs' repertoire with tempting choices such as black pudding with whisky
or pepper sauce; duck breast on a bed of red onion marmalade; sea bass with a dill and white
wine sauce; and crunchy-style sweet & sour pork. Locally sourced meat, game and fish are the basis
of the dishes, and both preparation and presentation are priorities. Booking is recommended
on summer Saturdays and all year for the traditional Sunday lunch- the latter so popular that many
of the regulars come every week.
Bankfield is also a popular choice for private parties and functions. It's a lovely spot to
relax and unwind, and an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of coast and countryside close
by. The five upstairs letting rooms, including a splendid bridal suite with a four-poster bed,
walk-in shower and Jacuzzi, can be booked on a B&B or Dinner, B&B basis.
