In the centre of Ennerdale Bridge, on Wainwright's famous Coast to Coast Walk, the
Shepherds Arms Hotel is an ideal base for discovering a lovely
part of the world. It's also a very pleasant spot
for enjoying a drink or a meal, in the bar, in the panelled Georgian restaurant or in the newly refurbished outdoor at the back of the building.
From Easter to the end of September the bar is open all
day, every day, and out of season lunchtime and
evening Monday to Thursday and all day at the weekend.
Old beams and open fires create a cosy ambience in
the 400-year-old building for a drink and a chat -
Jennings Bitter and Cumberland Ale are among the five real ales
on tap in the summer (three in the winter). Food is
served lunchtime and evening, and the printed menu
and daily specials board provide plenty of choice for all tastes and appetites. Eight centrally heated
upstairs bedrooms - six en suite, two with private bathrooms - are available throughout the year for B&B guests.
The Coast to Coat Walk runs the whole length of Ennerdale, and there are some lovely walks around
secluded Ennerdale Water.
