Four acres of grounds provide a quiet, scenic setting for
Hazel Bank Country House, an impressive early-Victorian building set against
a backdrop of fells, with lush gardens sweeping down to Rosthwaite village. Eight
outstanding bedrooms are individually furnished and decorated for style and comfort, with
lots of personal touches and commendable attention to detail. All
are named after the surrounding fells; some have four-posters and
two are located on the ground floor. The rooms are bookable
on Dinner, B&B basis, and the restaurant is also open to
non-residents for traditional candlelit dinners.
An alternative to the rooms in the house is a superb
self-catering cottage for two, offering a bedroom, shower room,
all-electric kitchen, drying room, patio and spectacular views of fells, fields
and woodland. It has its own access drive and car parking area. In their ten years here, Glen and
Brenda Davies have won many prestigious accolades and awards,
including an AA 5-Star Gold Country House rating, an AA rosette for
fine cuisine and a Visit Britain 4-Star rating for the cottage.
Wainwright described Borrowdale as the loveliest and most precious valley
in Lakeland, and Keats and Ruskin also waxed lyrical about the
glorious scenery.
