There are few finer places for a leisurely
Lakeland holiday than the Swinside Inn, which stands in
the lovely Newlands Valley, with stunning views
from the terrace. This fine old drovers' inn is
surrounded by endless acres of glorious countryside, looking one
way towards Grisedale Pike and in the other down
towards Derwent Water. The inn is a popular place for
walkers and tourists, whether they've come for a
refreshing drink, to settle down to a snack or a meal, or to spend
a few days in the comfortable accommodation. The bar
is open all day seven days a week for drinks, and the
real ales - Cumberland Ale, Deuchars IPA and a
rotating guest - are kept in fine fettle.
Meals are served from noon to 9pm from Easter
to the end of October, and lunchtime and evening out of season. All the food is sourced locally
and freshly prepared, pub classics such as steaks, lasagne
and curries share the menu with local specialities like
Cumberland sausage and Borrowdale trout. The food is complemented by
a well-chosen list of mainly New World wines. The six
centrally heated bedrooms, all with en suite showers, TV and hot
drinks tray, are available all year round.
