Ulverston, with its fascinating alleys and cobbled streets, its ancient church, Laurel &
Hardy Museum, Glass Centre and Canal, is a place
that needs plenty of time to explore, and visitors looking for a comfortable, well-appointed
base need look no further than the Kings Arms
Hotel.
Stuart and Lynne Ward, who took over here in 2006, keep the welcome mat out for all
who pass through the door, whether they've come
for a drink, a meal or a holiday, and they have earned a fine
reputation for the quality of the hotel's facilities in
every department. They have really given the
handsome Victorian building in the heart of town a new
lease of life, and their 25 years in the trade have
helped them turn the place round, not just as a
regular meeting place for local residents but also as
a place where visitors can pause for refreshment
or enjoy a stay in the comfortable bedrooms.
The bar is open all day, seven days a week for drinks, which include Hartleys XB and a good selection of draught
keg ales including Robinsons Smooth and Dark Mild. Children are welcome up to 8.30 in the
evening. Quality home cooking is another plus, served from 12 to 5 every day on the printed menu
and specials board; among the favourite dishes are fish specials and the ever-popular steak & ale pie.
The accommodation comprises six upstairs rooms which can be booked on a room only
or Bed & Breakfast basis. One minute's walk away, Stuart and Lynne also have a holiday
cottage sleeping up to 5 guests and available to let all year round. There is a function room catering for
up to 100 and available for all kinds of occasions.
