Alfie's Café

1 Old Kings Arms Lane, Cockermouth, Cumbria CA13 9LS

Tucked away down the lane between Boots and a Travel Agent, Alfie's Café is a place to relax and enjoy a break with a range of hot and cold drinks and light meals. The long courtyard off Cockermouth's main street is away from the bustle of the town, but Alfie's has a cheerful, convivial atmosphere all of its own.

Owner Marty Hetherington crated the café in 2005, naming it after her dog, and she and her staff - Lucy, Danika, Marianne, Martha and Steph - have made it a really homely, inviting place, recommended by the residents of Cockermouth and many local guest houses. The choice includes the excellent soups of the day, perhaps pea & mint or roasted tomato & red pepper, sandwiches, burgers, lemon cake, chocolate cake, apple scones and Victoria sponge. Alfie's is open from 10 to 6 Monday to Saturday.
