The White Lion Inn has a tradition of
hospitality that dates back more than two centuries. It enjoys
a magnificent setting in Patterdale, situated on
the popular Coast to Coast walking route and close
to the foot of Ullswater. Visitors are assured of
the warmest of welcomes from owner Rita Dawes and licensee-managers Alastair and Mandy Howard-Carter.
The bar is open throughout the day, seven days
a week, for the service of drinks (two real ales
always available) and the printed menu, supplemented
by summer specials, tempts with a wide range of
home-cooked dishes served from noon to 9. Typical
dishes include fish & chips, grilled trout
with parsley butter, toasted almonds and peas, liver & onions, burgers, steak
pie, beef in Guinness, sizzling steak platters and
honey-roast duck with a sweet & sour sauce. Sandwiches
and traditional breakfasts are served until 6 o'clock.
Seven guest bedrooms - five en suite, the
others with private bathrooms - provide a quiet,
comfortable base for a relaxing break or a walking, climbing
or touring holiday. Dogs are welcome.
