Long Byres at Talkin Head offers superb
self-catering accommodation in a picturesque,
isolated location on a hill farm in the North Pennines
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 10 miles east
of Carlisle and 3 miles south of Brampton. Owner Mrs Harriet Sykes has overseen the conversion of old farm buildings into seven
self-contained cottages with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. They feature
quarry-tiled floors, exposed beams and pine panelling, and fittings
include a gas cooker, toaster, fridge, teletext TV and shared
laundry facilities.
The two largest cottages, with three bedrooms and
two bathrooms, have recently been completely refurbished to
an impressively high standard. All are available throughout
the year, and central heating and double glazing keeps
things cosy and peaceful at all times. Guests can meet the cows and ponies that live on the farm, and
while strolling around they might spot red squirrels,
badgers, hares and foxes. This is great walking and nearby
attractions include golf, riding, the RSPB Reserve at Geltsdale and
the many activities for all the family at Talkin Tarn.
