Gordon and Elsie Edgar own and run Brief
Encounter, located in a station building on
the north platform on the Settle-Carlisle line. Beautifully restored to preserve all the elegance
of a bygone age, it's an atmospheric setting in
which to enjoy morning coffee, a light lunch,
traditional Sunday lunch or afternoon tea, with evening
meals available by prior booking.
As much of the produce as possible is sourced locally to create a wide variety of mouthwatering
dishes that bring in customers from near and far. Steak &
ale pie made with Newcastle Brown Ale is just one of
the superb dishes that have earned Brief Encounter
several awards, including a Certificate of Excellence from the Romany Society
- presented by Terry Waite. This outstanding
café-restaurant is closed in January and February,
also Mondays in November and December. Cash and cheque only.
