The Queens Head is a striking
black-and-white timbered building standing in the heart of
pretty Hawkshead. Owners Mr & Mrs Merrick
provide everything a guest could want for an enjoyable
visit, from the open-arms welcome and genuine hospitality to the comfortable accommodation
and the super food. One look at the menu tells you that local produce means just that, with
exceptional dishes featuring, among other ingredients, trout from Esthwaite Water, pheasant from
the Graythwaite Estate, the Woodall family's traditionally
cured hams, Herdwick lamb and the famous damsons from the
Lyth Valley.
The ten guest bedrooms, all with private bathrooms
and some with splendid four-posters, can be booked on a Bed
& Breakfast or Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis, and the
owners also offer self-catering accommodation in
two nearby cottages and a studio apartment; the largest
sleeps four, and all are beautifully appointed and fully equipped for a carefree stay
- and guests
in those units can order food from the hotel. Both
options provide an ideal opportunity to relax and unwind, to soak
up the scenery and culture of Lakeland, to walk, climb, cycle,
fish, sail or take a boat trip
.or to do nothing and enjoy the
warm, friendly ambience of the hotel.
