"At the end of the day
. location matters."
And nowhere is this more evident than at The
Barriemore, one of Oban's finest small guest houses. It sits right on the Corran Esplanade,
with wonderful vistas out over the bay to the islands
of Kerrera, Mull and Lismore. It has an historical background as it was built in 1895 by John Stuart McCaig,
who also built McCaig's Folly in the town.
The four-star hotel boasts eleven fully en suite rooms
(doubles, twins and one triple) which have alarms, colour TVs, (many
having DVD or video facilities) and hospitality trays. Each one
is individually and opulently furnished, and from five of them
the whole panorama of Oban Bay can be seen. The residents'
lounge is comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a large open fire
and plenty of books and magazines. This leads into the warm, cosy
bar, which is for residents only. Here you can enjoy a wide range of beers, wines or single malts after
a hard day exploring all that Argyll has to offer. The
spacious dining room overlooks the bay, and is where full
Scottish breakfasts (including locally produced kippers and
smoked haddock) are served. Overnight tariffs include breakfast, and
all credit cards with the exception of American Express and
Diners are accepted. Oban itself has a wide range of
attractions, including many fine restaurants, so there is always something
to do.
