When travelling north or south along the beautiful Ayrshire coast, you must stop at Buchanan's Village Shop in Ballantrae. If you are touring, or are enjoying a caravanning or self-catering holiday in South Ayrshire, this is the place to stock up on all your essentials. It is so much more than a typical village shop and, after a major refurbishment, was reopened in October 2006. It not only carries all the usual convenience items expected of a shop of this quality, such as newspapers and tinned goods, but a wide range of produce that is sourced locally. Vegetables, cuts of meat, fish and dairy products are stocked, and where possible all come from local farmers, fishermen and growers. In addition you can also purchase superb locally made ice cream, as well as pies and cold meats. It also stocks a wide range of craft and gift items, many of which again are made locally.

This is a village shop as it used to be, with friendly service and realistic prices. It is also licensed, so you can stock up on beers, wines and spirits .Why not call in on your way past for excellent coffees, teas and snacks? It has a small eating area that serves traditional farmhouse baking such as pies, cakes and desserts, and filling bowls of home made soup. You can choose from a printed menu, and takeaways are available. Children are most welcome at this friendly shop, so why not call in? You won't be disappointed!
