5 Hacklete truly is a Hidden Place, tucked away
on the island of Great Bernera off the west coast
of Lewis. The island is connected to the mainland
by a bridge and makes a wonderful centre for exploring the whole of Lewis and Harris. 5 Hacklete
is a modern but picturesque cottage sitting on the shores of West Loch Roag at the southern end
of the island.
The cottage has a large, wild garden and enjoys broad views of the sea and surrounding lochs.
Available on a self-catering basis, the cottage has 3
attractively furnished and decorated bedrooms,
providing comfortable accommodation for up to 5 people.
There's a sitting room with colour TV, a well-appointed
kitchen with cooker, fridge and washing machine, and
guests have use of the large garden. The croft has
a professional Harris tweed weaving loom on the premises which produces a range of different
patterns. The weaver, Irene Sutherland is happy to
give demonstrations of how the famous and beautiful
Harris tweed cloth is woven. 5 Hacklete is ideal for a
quiet, relaxing holiday as things seem to go at a slower pace
on the island. A visit to the Callanish Standing Stones, close
by on the mainland, makes for a pleasant excursion.
