At Rhydymwyn, just a couple of miles northwest of Mold, is The Antelope, a charming old inn that dates back more than 200 years. It's run by Kath and Paul who took over here in the spring of 2007 and have quickly made their mark. Kath was brought up in the licensing trade but this is the first time she and Paul have run their own business.

Good food is one of their major priorities. Professional chefs create an enticing selection of dishes based on ingredients that have been sourced within Wales. Amongst their specialities are home-cooked Steak & Ale Pie; Pork & Mushroom Stroganoff and home-made lasagne, but the menu also offers a good selection of fish, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Steaks, home-cooked ham and salads provide further options. Children have their own menu but can also be served a smaller portion of dishes from the main menu. For those with smaller appetites, there's also a choice of sandwiches, toasties, baguettes, jacket potatoes and home-made soup. In addition to the regular menu, there are always daily specials listed on the board. Food is served from noon until 2pm, and from 6pm to 9pm, Monday to Friday; and from noon until 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. Amongst the comprehensive range of beverages to accompany your meal are 2 real ales, Thwaites Original and Bombardier. With plenty of outdoor seating for fine weather, and the warm and friendly interior for cooler days and the winter, this is a lovely pub that is sure to go from strength to strength.

Entertainment at The Antelope includes a disco or karaoke on Friday and Saturday evenings from 9pm with a late bar, and a pub quiz on Sunday evening from 9pm. A rather unusual but popular amenity of the inn is its courtesy bus. It seats 14 and for private parties, the inn will pick you up and take you home.

The Antelope also offers comfortable accommodation in 10 rooms of various sizes, all with en suite facilities. All major credit cards are accepted apart from American Express and Diners; there is good disabled access for the bar areas.
