Situated above the River Conwy, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia range, the National
Trust's Bodnant Garden is one of the finest in
the Britain.
The gardens were laid out by the 2nd Lord Aberconway in 1875 and were presented to
the National Trust in 1949. The rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias are a truly
magnificent sight in the spring, followed by
herbaceous borders, roses and water lilies in the
summer and glorious colours in the autumn.
Bodnant has many other attractions, including a laburnum arch, a lily terrace and
a stepped pergola; in the Dell, formed round a little tributary of the Conwy, is the
tallest redwood in the country. The pretty Garden House was built in Gloucestershire in the
1730s and was later used as a Pin Mill before
being brought to Bodnant in 1938. The garden has a shop (not National Trust) and a
refreshment pavilion. Bodnant, which is open from
mid-March to early November, is located off the A470 eight miles south of Colwyn Bay
and Llandudno.
