In a quiet corner of Pontardawe is
the delightful Bishops Cafe Bistro. Taking its name from the owner,
Julie Bishop, this is a rare find. A sandwich shop that can offer a real
choice in fresh and tasty fillings. The range is excellent and the
prices very reasonable, whether you decide to take away or enjoy your
sandwich inside. The sit down menu starts the day with light
refreshments such as hot toast or tea cakes with jam or marmalade served
until 11.30am. Then there's usually a choice of two home-made soups
served with a french stick, a range of baked potatoes with various hot
or cold fillings and a selection of home-made meals such as Chilli con
Carne and tender pieces of Lamb in a Minted Gravy. The dining area is
bright and colourful and the open kitchen means you can see your food
being prepared. To round off your lunch, or to accompany your coffee,
there is a divine selection of wicked desserts. Everything on the menu
is prepared here with fruit and vegetables freshly delivered each day.
Bishops is open from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday; payment is by cash or
cheque only.
