The picturesque village of Abermule is set in the Severn Valley surrounded by rolling hills and stunning scenery. The village boasts a primary school, church, community centre, two pubs, a caravan park, village shop and an excellent place to stay, the Abermule Hotel. The hotel, which dates back to the mid-1800s, was originally known as the "Railway Hotel". But after the "Great Abermule Train Disaster" of January 26th 1921, which resulted sadly in the death of 17 passengers, including the chairman of Cambrian Railways, it was renamed the "Abermule Hotel" twelve months later.

Guests at the hotel will receive a warm welcome from mine hosts Wendy and Barry Davies who arrived here in December 2006 after some 29 years experience in the hospitality business. Wendy is an accomplished cook whose specialities include Lamb Shank in mint gravy, Steak & Guinness Pie, and various gammon dishes. But her menu also offers a good selection of chicken, fish, pasta and vegetarian dishes. Wendy also does a very good Sunday Carvery with a choice of meats. Food is served every day except Tuesdays and Sunday evenings from noon until 3pm, and from 7pm to 9pm. A selection of Light Bites - jacket potatoes, soup of the day, ploughman's, toasties and such - is also available in the bar. To accompany your meal, an extensive selection of beverages is available including two real ales - Tetleys and Marston's Pedigree.

The hotel also offers accommodation, with 2 en-suite guest bedrooms available. One is a spacious, fully centrally heated room with a double bed, and equipped with colour TV and hospitality tray. It enjoys glorious views of the Welsh hillsides. The other is a family room with two double beds with all the same facilities.

The hotel also caters for touring caravans, campers, cyclists, anglers, walkers and hikers. Its Caravan and Camping Park is equipped with electric hitch-ups, disabled toilet and a shower room. Other amenities provided by the hotel include a large marquee available for private parties, a large beer garden and patio, a play area and a large floodlit car park at the rear. If you enjoy fishing, the hotel owns the fishing rights to the River Mule which flows past the bottom of the hotel gardens. Walkers can enjoy a pleasant stroll along the towpath of the Montgomery Canal which runs past the outskirts of the village.
