Occupying a superb position on the quay at Barmouth, The Anchor Restaurant commands ravishing views of the Mawddach estuary and the Cader Idris mountain range. These can be enjoyed from tables at the front of the restaurant where you can also watch the world go by. The Anchor's extensive menu offers an enticing choice of appetising and wholesome dishes. Welsh Black beef features prominently but you'll also find fish, poultry, pasta and vegetarian options as well. Main courses include a wonderful Smokey Fisherman's Crumble, Lamb Mignons in a redcurrant and rosemary sauce, a Special Paella and a Mediterranean Vegetable Cannelloni with garlic bread and salad garnish. For lighter appetites, there's a wide selection of hot baked potatoes, home-made burgers, salads, giant baps and sandwiches, and toasties. Amongst the Anchor Specials are a Welsh Ham Melt, a Tuna Melt with Welsh cheddar cheese and the Anchor's Famous Fish and Chips. Kids have their own Happy Meals. The restaurant is fully licensed so you can enjoy a glass of wine, Pimms, bottled beer, cans of bitter, Guinness or cider with your meal. The restaurant is open every day from 9am to 9pm in the summer; from 9am to 5pm out of season. All major credit cards are accepted.

The owners of The Anchor, Davina and Warren Lynch, also own the Knickerbocker's Ice Cream Parlour next door but one to the restaurant. Here you'll find a choice of 25 different flavours of traditional home-made ice creams made with milk and double cream.

Davina and Warren also have 2 luxury self-catering flats, Harbour View and Cader View, situated on the first and second floors of Pembroke House, above the restaurant and ice cream parlour. These stylish and contemporary apartments also enjoy wonderful panoramic views over Barmouth harbour and the Mawddach estuary. This Victorian property has recently been refurbished throughout. Both apartments have 2 bedrooms, a kitchen/diner and bathroom. The master bedrooms are also lounges with a king size bed, LCD TV and Sky channels, and pull out settee bed.

Barmouth itself has much to offer. There's a golden sandy Blue Flag beach that stretches for miles and provides beautiful views of the Cader Idris mountain range, Barmouth bridge and the Mawddach estuary.

You can take the ferry across the estuary from right outside Pembroke House and catch the narrow gauge steam train for a visit to Fairbourne which also has a safe family beach.
