Bridge Cottage Café Tea Rooms occupies
an historic 16th-century cottage by the sea and boasts delightful walled
gardens. The perfect retreat in which to enjoy fresh home-made food and a
selection of drinks, it is set in an outstanding location with views to the
beach and sea. Owners Allie and Tim have been here since 2005; Allie has over 20
years' experience in catering, and it shows: her menu is simply superb, as are
the daily specials.
Just a few examples from the extensive menu
include breakfast dishes (served until 11.30 a.m.), fresh seafood and fish
dishes such as grilled haddock, Whitby wholetail scampi and Whitby kippers, lime
and coriander chicken, quesadillas, a choice of hearty salads and more, together
with a range of fresh sandwiches and, from 2.30 - 4.30, traditional afternoon
tea with home-made cakes, scones and more. Cosy and comfortable, there's room
for 45 inside and another 50 outside in the gardens. Open Wednesday to Sunday
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (to 7 p.m. during the summer holidays), this lovely
establishment has won an award as one of the top ten places for children in the
Northeast, and boasts a special children's menu, high chairs, colouring books
and more to keep little diners happy.
