Quality shines through at The Black Horse
Inn, distinguished in so many respects: location, standard of accommodation,
the excellence of the food and the genuine warmth of the hospitality on offer.
Set in the tranquil village of Clifton, just a mile from the M62 at Junction 25,
this traditional inn makes an ideal base from which to explore the many scenic
and historic sights and attractions of the region, from York, beautiful rural
villages and the wealth of country houses, gracious parks and other beauty spots
to Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield fewer than 20 minutes away.
The inn has been family-run for over 60
years. Jane, now at the helm, was born here; she and her husband Andrew have
been providing all their customers with the best in quality and service for over
seven years. The inn itself dates back more than 350 years, and boasts a number
of charming original features while also providing every modern comfort. Open
all day, every day for ale, the real ales on tap are Black Sheep, Timothy Taylor
Landlord and a rotating guest ale.
Excellent food is served daily from midday
until 9.30 p.m., with two separate elegant and tastefully decorated restaurants
and the bar area where guests can enjoy a selection of tempting dishes. Booking
is advised at all times, but particularly at weekends. The menu changes with the
seasons to make the most of the freshest local produce, with something for every
palate and including mouthwatering choices such as grilled lobster, local steak
and Black Sheep ale pie, hearty steaks, slow-braised Welsh lamb, warm salad of
Toulouse sausage, chicken and vanilla poached pear, and wild mushroom risotto.
The separate function room seats 60 or
accommodates 100 for a buffet, and there's a very pleasant courtyard to the rear
of the inn. Open all year round for accommodation, there are 21 comfortable and
attractive ensuite guest bedrooms, some of which are located on the ground
floor, making them easily accessible to guests with disabilities. The rooms come
in a range of sizes including family rooms, and guests can stay on a B&B or
dinner, B&B basis.
