Situated in the heart of Pontefract, in the
Market Place, The Liquorice Bush takes its charming name from the popular
annual Liquorice Fair held in the town every July, and from the long
associations the town has with liquorice, being a centre of production for
hundreds of years.
Dating back many hundreds of years itself,
the inn has always maintained a strong reputation for hospitality. Recently
refurbished, the décor and furnishings are very attractive and comfortable,
enhancing the pub's welcoming ambience. Warm woods, exposed beams - the best of
traditional and modern comforts meet here in this truly excellent pub. Three
real ales are on tap - Black Sheep, Timothy Taylor Landlord and a rotating guest
ale - together with a choice of lagers, ciders, stouts, wines, spirits and soft
drinks.
Experienced licensees Shaun and Gill White
took over at this fine inn in February of 2003. They bring a wealth of
experience to offering great hospitality and a high standard of service and
quality to all their guests. Food is available at lunchtime Monday to Saturday
(11-2.30), as well as on select Sundays such as race days and during the annual
Liquorice Festival. Guests choose from a menu packed with delicious fresh snacks
and full meals, all making use of local produce. Special food deals include two
main courses for a discount price, and various drink promotions.
Well worth seeking out while touring the
region, this delightful pub is a relaxing and welcoming place to enjoy a hearty
pint or meal. Children welcome.
