Visit the Dales Countryside Museum
and see for yourself how our ancestors survived in this beautiful, but
some-times harsh, environment. This award winning museum brings alive the past
of the Yorkshire Dales, with interactive exhibits, exciting displays, video and
CD Rom. The museum has several galleries, the largest one being in the Victorian
goods shed that once housed the goods waiting for collection by the steam
engines of the Midland railway. Adjoining the goods shed exhibition hall is the
purpose built museum which houses a gift shop and information centre, public
toilets, education & study rooms, an outside amphitheatre and the John Baker
Exhibition Hall. The Museum's time tunnel will then take you onto the platform
of the old station, where a series of railway carriages house the video and
artefacts from Dales life throughout the centuries.
The museum showcases local craft workers and
craft demonstrations are held throughout the year. For details of opening times,
how to get there, exhibitions and events, please telephone the information desk
on 01969 667450 or visit the Authority's award winning website. Fully accessible
by wheelchair the Dales Countryside Museum is situated in side Station Yard,
just off the main A684 at the eastern end of Hawes, Wensleydale. Opening times:
10am until 5pm daily (except Christmas Holidays)
