An outstanding property situated in Sutton
upon Derwent found southeast of York off the A1079, the St Vincent Arms
is owned and personally run by six members of the Hopwood family, who have been
here at this gracious and welcoming inn since 1990.
Open every session, one big draw here are the
nine real ales, which include selections from all round the country - Timothy
Taylor Landlord, London Pride, John Smiths, Charles Wells Bombardier, York
Terrier, Old Mill St George's, Fullers Porter and ESB, to name but a few. This
astonishing choice of ales is complemented by an equally good range of lagers,
wines, spirits and soft drinks as well as cider and stout. Winner of CAMRA's Pub
of the Year award not once but twice in the past four years, the Hopwoods know
their ales and are proud to carry on a long tradition of serving up the finest
ones to their guests.
The food here is no less a draw, served daily
at lunch (12-2) and dinner (7-9.30). The no-smoking restaurant seats 60 diners;
booking required for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The menu and specials board
offer an excellent range of fresh home-cooked dishes, all expertly prepared and
presented. A short sampling from a typical day's specials board includes trio of
crevettes, smoked salmon and samphire, aubergine and tomato bake, chicken liver
pâté, east coast lobster, pan-fried Dover sole, rib-eye steak or lamb curry. The
atmosphere here is always convivial and welcoming. For its drink, food and
relaxed, friendly ambience, this fine pub is well worth seeking out.
