The picturesque village of Studland, 3 miles north of Swanage, stands within an area of
outstanding natural beauty and is protected by the
National Trust. At the heart of this lovely little place is
The Bankes Arms Country Inn which is itself
as pretty as a picture with its ancient walls of mellowed Purbeck
stone. The inn occupies a superb position overlooking the sea where
the beautiful sandy beaches are safe and ideal for sunbathing and
most water sports equipment can be hired on the beaches and lessons
in windsurfing, water-skiing and so on are available.
The inn is noted for its excellent food, with a
wide selection of bar meals and cream teas available all day during
the season; lunches and evening meals are served every day in the bar
and in the non-smoking dining room. Real ale lovers will be in
their element here since the inn brews 4 ales of its own and
also stocks a large selection of guest ales which are changed
regularly. Another attraction is the annual Beer Festival held here in
mid August which features over 70 real ales.
If you are planning to stay in this
glorious corner of
the county, the Bankes Arms offers a c
hoice of family,
double
and single rooms, all with colour TV and tea-making facilities;
en suite bathrooms are available in most rooms. There's a
50% reduction for children aged 4-12 sharing a room with adults. The inn
regrets that it cannot accept children under 4
years of age. Visitors will find plenty to see and
do in the area. Local amenities include a 9 and 18-hole golf course, horse riding,
nature trails, a bird sanctuary and a magnificent coastal cliff-top walking route that starts just
a few yards from the inn. If you prefer more urban amusements, the busy little town
of Swanage is just 3 miles away and Bournemouth is easily accessible via
the Sandbanks car ferry.
