Isle of Wight Zoo

A unique attraction on the seafront at Sandown. the Isle of Wight Zoo specialises in breeding and caring for some of the planet's most severely threatened creatures. The staff are completely devoted to their charges, as any visitor will quickly see from the wonderful conditions in which the animals live. The stars of the show are the beautiful and dangerous Big Cats - Royal and White Bengal Tigers, Chinese Tigers, Siberian Tigers, Lions, Leopards, Jaguars, Black Panthers.

But other creatures are equally fascinating, including lemurs, monkeys, reptiles, birds, insects and spiders. A day spent here is both entertaining and educational, and anyone can sponsor an animal in the Sanctuary. The friendly, expert staff are always more than happy to answer questions about the animals and to emphasise the importance of conservation..

The Zoo has a snack bar, a children's play area, a gift shop and a large car park. Sanctuaries such as these are among the last hopes for many of the world's endangered species. They are sometimes called modern-day Noah's Arks, though in the wild their inhabitants would be threatened by much more than floods. It is thanks to places like these that some of the world's most beautiful creatures still have a future.
