Said to be the second largest village in Britain, Pilling boasts no fewer than five churches.  One of them, Old St John's is notable as a 'time-warp' church, virtually unchanged since its completion in 1717.  Flagged floors, pews and box-pews of unvarnished oak, and a three decker pulpit have all survived unscathed thanks to the building of a new church in the village in 1887.
